+ About us
In its broadest sense, rigging includes all elements that contribute to the propulsion of the boat: standing rigging, running rigging, and sails.
Standing rigging consists of all fixed components such as the mast, spreaders, forestay, shrouds, and backstay.
Running rigging includes all mobile elements such as halyards, sheets, and reefing lines.
The entire rigging system must meet three essential criteria : offer minimal wind resistance, be as lightweight as possible and provide optimal stiffness (minimal stretch) and maximum strength

In this ongoing pursuit of performance, SMN’s technicians remain up to date with the latest innovations and cutting-edge technologies.
They are ready to advise you and answer your questions to make your sailboat even more efficient and safer.
Which shrouds should I choose for my standing rigging?
Traditional wire, Dyform, or rod rigging?
Or advanced composite materials, such as Kevlar, multi-strand carbon (ECsix), or Dyneema textile?

For running rigging and rope selection (halyards, sheets, boom vangs, etc.), we assess each line’s: breaking strength, UV resistance, abrasion and seawater resistance and stretch and density.
SMN works exclusively with the most trusted manufacturers in the world of offshore racing and high-performance sailing, such as:
Cousin Trestec, Future Fibres, Facnor, Selden, Lorima, Marlow, Liros, Gleistein, BSI, Sparcraft, Harken, Profurl, and more.
For your sailboat, a full or partial replacement of the standing rigging is recommended by insurers every 10 years. Without a maintenance invoice less than 10 years old, insurers may refuse to cover damages, citing "lack of maintenance."For peace of mind, have your rigging inspected by an SMN technician at least once a year, at the start of the season.
When it comes to rigging, anticipation is key.
